HomeThe Dixie Metropolitan Planning Organization (Dixie MPO), is the designated agency, as established by the state of Utah, responsible for comprehensive transportation planning in the urbanized and urbanizing areas in Utah’s Washington County, an area historically known as “Utah’s Dixie.” The Dixie MPO area includes St. George City, Washington City, Santa Clara City, Ivins City and portions of unincorporated Washington County located within the Dixie MPO boundaries. Member jurisdictions which comprise the Dixie MPO include Washington County, St. George City, Washington City, Santa Clara City and Ivins City. AboutHistory and Organization of the Dixie MPO After several years of planning and actions to comply with local, federal and state requirements, on September 20, 2002 then [Utah] Governor Michael O. Leavitt designated Utah’s newest metropolitan planning organization (MPO). This MPO was officially designated as the Dixie Metropolitan Planning Organization (also referred to as the Dixie MPO or DMPO) and has its office located within and is administered by the Five County Association of Governments (FCAOG). The Federal Government acknowledged the Governor’s designation of the Dixie Metropolitan Planning Organization on October 8, 2002, clearing the way for this new MPO, in partnership with other local, state and federal entities, to conduct the urban transportation planning process for the St. George Urbanized Area (SGUZA) and a planning boundary of what might likely be urbanized by the year 2025. The Dixie MPO is actually made up of three recognized entities: The Dixie Transportation Planning Office ( DTPO ) located at the FCAOG; A policy body known as the Dixie Transportation Executive Council ( DTEC ) comprised of elected officials representing the cities of Ivins, St. George, Santa Clara, and Washington, the county of Washington, and the State Transportation Commissioner representing the southwestu0026hellip;

- Dixie Transportation Executive CouncilDixie Transportation Executive Council The Governor of the State of Utah designated an MPO for this urbanized area on September 20, 2002. The Governor’s action was concurred with by the U.S. Department of Transportation on October 9, 2002. Official organization of the Dixie MPO was established on November 19, 2002 by the formal establishment of the Dixie Transportation Executive Council, or “DTEC”, the policy body for the MPO. Regional Plans & Programs

Dixie MPO is responsible for transportation regional planning within the urbanized area of Washington County. Below contains information on planning documents that are conducted by the MPO or in partnership with the MPO.

Transportation Planning

Dixie MPO coordinates the regional transportation planning process for the urbanized areas in Washington County. The process is a holistic view on all modes of transportation, including roadways, transit, freight, and active transportation, producing the Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). The RTP recommends, prioritizes, and outlines transportation improvements to meet out transportation needs beyond a 30-year period.

Dixie MPO is a partner in the Utah’s Unified Transportation Plan, which is a statewide plan of the 30-year needs for transportation improvements throughout Utah.

Transportation Programming and Visioning

Dixie MPO updates the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) yearly. The TIP is a five-year capital improvement program for roadway, transit, and active transportation projects.

Dixie MPO is a major partner in Vision Dixie, a vision on how the region will grow and develop in the Dixie region.
